Why BAD foods make us FAT!

Have you ever caught yourself labeling certain foods as GOOD or BAD? Well, I think we are all guilty of that. So is broccoli good and ice cream bad for us? Here’s the answer: they are BOTH great!

One thing that MOST of my clients over the decades that struggle with weight loss have in common…. they all say: ‘Oh, I can't have that! This is not allowed on my diet!’ Then what inevitably follows is a binge of foods that aren’t allowed when nobody is watching. It’s classic behavior. Remember when you were a kid? The forbidden things had so much more pull and we all did them in hiding anyways. Let’s put it all out there in the open. Nothing is forbidden. It’s all GOOD.

Just imagine if everything you love to eat is on your nutrition plan… What!? Wow!! Did I just blow your mind? Yes, I say, eat it all. Throw out the word diet and being on one. Being on a diet is BS. It creates a negative cycle of going on and going off one. Living in a constant state of disappointment isn’t healthy.

So what is there to do? Here is what I teach my clients: make a list of all the crap foods you love. Allow yourself to have some of it throughout the week. The mere fact that it’s no longer off limits, completely changes the ball game. Eat great nutritious food 80% of the time, and give yourself permission to be human the rest of the time, as long as you stay within your caloric daily allowance. Then 20% of the time, eat the things you love ... in moderation. For example: instead of having a pint of ice cream in the freezer, buy the small cup size ones. Ben and Jerry’s has them in all flavors. All between 230-280 calories a pop. Have one. Eat it slowly. Savor it. I made a whole post on this along with other great sweet alternatives on the ‘nutrition’ section on the membership if you want to know more. I share my tricks on how i stay at 100lbs at almost 50 years old eating what i want!

Change the way you relate to food. It’s not your enemy. Eating clean helps you feel great and be healthy. And eating crap in moderation is great for your soul. You only have one life. Love it. Live it. Enjoy all the things it has to offer.

You can do this. All you need to do is know yourself. Know what your patterns are that hold you back from succeeding. Let’s break that cycle. You can be as thin and in shape as you want to be. One day at a time. Before you know it, you changed your lifestyle and it wasn’t even that hard! I believe in you because you are amazing.
